ABOUT
San Diego Women’s Lacrosse Club (SDC) is a post-collegiate lacrosse club. We’re based in sunny San Diego, but our members are a mix of locals and transplants. If you’re a fan of tricking yourself into exercise and making adult friends outside of work, then SDC is the club for you.
FAQs
How do I join the team and play with you guys?
The first step in playing with us is to sign up for our general email list on the home page. When we have spots open for scrimmages and tournaments, we’ll share them in our newsletters. We recognize we’ve had to waitlist a lot of players the last few years. Currently, we are the only post-collegiate women’s club in San Diego and typically our rosters have 18 spots, so space is limited with us. We try to open up space to new players when possible but we prioritize our members so we don’t grow at the expense of the awesome people that have contributed to our club’s culture and success. If you’re eager to play: 1) Stay patient! All playing opportunities are shared via our mailing list. To sign up for that, fill out the form on our homepage. Please do not fill out the form multiple times. 2) Sign up for summer league where we have 4 teams worth of players. 3) We would love more clubs to pop up in the area! This would mean more playing opportunities for women in San Diego and local competition. If you’re interested in forming a new club, please reach out as we’re happy to be a resource.
What are memberships?
We created our tiered membership in 2022. Post-pandemic, we had a spike in new players and tried a “first come, first serve” approach to playing opportunities. This meant leaving “regulars” off the roster so new people could get an opportunity to play. Unfortunately some people would ghost/bail last minute and they took the roster spot of people that really wanted to play. Our Blue membership level is for the players that pretty much always play with us (including travel tournaments) and our Red membership level is for those who play with us locally and a tournament here and there. More information about memberships can be found here.
What is the playing level?
As the sport continues to grow at the youth level, that has trickled up to the playing level with our club. We have a pretty wide mix of talent/experience. If you’re unsure on if your skill level is a fit, email us!
Do you guys practice?
We’ve learned the hard way that people THINK they want to practice and then we organize it, a bunch of people RSVP, the day arrives, people realize they would rather spend their free weekend day at the beach and/or the bars, three people show up to the field, we vow to never have a practice again, and then we repeat the process a year later. That being said, if anyone ever wants to organize a shootaround/passaround, we’ll gladly help spread the word.
When is season?
We like to think of life as one giant season. The best way to describe it is:
Mid Jun-Mid August: Summer League + Tahoe tournament
October: Jam by the Sea + Hawaii Lacrosse Tournament
November-May: Play days and scrimmages against the local college club teams
See here for a more detailed schedule.
Is SDC more than just playing lacrosse?
Most definitely. We love doing float parties in Mission Bay, themed bar crawls, holiday parties, and San Diego Seals games. We hope to have more events for 2024!
How is this club run? Is there a coach?
We have 4 players who run this club on a volunteer basis. Since this club is full of adults, many of whom coach, we’ve never felt the need for a coach.
Do I need to be a US Lacrosse member to join?
We require a US Lacrosse number for summer league and several of the tournaments we play in require one as well, so we highly recommend becoming a USL member.
Do I need a uniform to play?
We have an SDC jersey that we require for all playing opportunities except if we do a special edition uniform. We usually keep the jersey the same for 3 years so people aren’t constantly buying new jerseys. We usually put in new orders 1-2 times a year so keep an eye out for those emails. We also do swag orders in April every year.
