Membership FAQs
Q: Do I have to become a member in order to play with SDC?
A: No, you do not HAVE to be a member to play with us! But there are a lot of cool benefits to becoming a member, which we will address, below. We know that people have lives and not everyone can commit a lot of their time to playing. If you play with us once a year, then maybe membership isn't for you, or maybe it is! That's for you to decide.
Q: How do I play in order to become a member if playing opportunities are filled with members?
A: We recognize we’ve had to waitlist a lot of players in the last few years, including members! Currently, we are the only post-collegiate women’s club in San Diego and typically our rosters have 18 spots, so space is limited with us. We try to open up space to new players when possible but we prioritize our members so we don’t grow at the expense of the awesome people that have contributed to our club’s culture and success. If you’re eager to play: 1) Stay patient! All playing opportunities are shared via our mailing list. To sign up for that, fill out the form on our homepage. 2) Sign up for summer league where we have 4 teams worth of players. 3) We would love more clubs to pop up in the area! This would mean more playing opportunities for women in San Diego and local competition. If you’re interested in forming a new club, please reach out as we’re happy to be a resource.
Q: What are the requirements for being a member?
A: Members do need to play with SDC at least once before signing up as in the past we’ve had players come out and play and find the playing level is either too advanced since they last picked up a stick or the environment is not competitive enough. We are somewhat competitive, so members should be able to consistently catch the ball and have decent stick skills. A fun attitude is also important as we’re a social group!
Q: How much is it to become a member?
A: Membership is $55 or $35/ year depending on which level you choose.
Q: What perks do I get if I become a member?
A: Aside from playing the sport you love, with a cool, diverse group of ladies, and making new friends, the following things are included in membership:
Discounts on tournament registration fees
1st dibs on play days and scrimmages
Ref fees paid for or discounted in pop-up games and scrimmages
Social gatherings - we have a holiday party every year (where we host food/drinks) and try to coordinate a few more events throughout the year
A voice on the team- We welcome members opinions and inquiries on tournaments, play days and overall grease of the club
Q: Can I still get all of the perks but not pay membership dues?
A: No
Q: Are the new jerseys required for members?
A: Members are strongly encouraged to purchase the newest SDC jersey as we’ll use them for all tournaments except Hawaii. We usually keep jersey designs for 2-3 years so people don’t have to keep buying new jerseys.
Q: When do I need to sign up/pay for a membership by?
A: There is no deadline for membership, though there will be 1-2 deadlines for jersey orders. Blue membership will be capped at 20 members and is sold out for 2024.
Q: How do I know if my membership is up to date?
A: We keep a running spreadsheet of when you paid for membership and how you paid for it. If you’re curious about your membership status, shoot us an email!
